Since Yersinia Pestis is Black Plague, a variant “to produce cooling” may be one that a mad scientist made that would cause a Malthusian dieback of humanity, probably with the intent of reducing Man’s effect upon the environment by lowering the mass of humanity and its needs. That would reduce waste heat both from man and his technology and, if anthropogenic global warming is actually a thing, lower the temperature of the planet.
So perhaps “Unmulun” is to rip MAN out by the roots to save the planet FROM Man.
I’m interested to see if the “Grey” variant of Yersinia Pestis is an airborne strain, since normally Bubonic Plague requires a fluid vector.
Or maybe the “Grey Plague” is a meta-generated “Ghoul” creator? (I refuse to call George Romero’s creations “Zombies”, for the same reason Romero never did – they simply *aren’t* zombies. They are Ghouls, the Hungry Dead. Zombies are undead slaves, with no will of their own.
Hmmm. Or maybe the “Grey Plague” creates proper zombies en masse…?
